We were contacted by a local broker to provide a staging proposal for a loft in a modern building in Portland's Pearl district recently. The seller had moved to another state and realized that a vacant space isn't as appealing to potential buyers. When we first viewed the loft as a vacant space it lacked warmth and personality. We used color to tie the loft spaces together, using chocolate and lime green with cinnamon red accents. Lofts can be challenging spaces! We hope our staging sprinkled a little life and warmth into this loft and brings a quick sale for the seller. Here are a few Before & After photos of this project ...

Sprinkle a little life and warmth? I would say so! The vacant, empty pictures make me want to put on a coat; the staged pictures make me want to put on a cozy bathrobe and sit and look out at the view. What a neat place! Lovely, lovely. (Tony; you are one smart A/R Realtor to hire Maureen, you won't regret it!)
Maureen ~ What an amazing space! I love what you did Maureen, from the furniture to the accessories! I love the pears on the kitchen island.
Maureen, Amazing job! I've never staged a loft, but can see why it could be challenging. This would seem to me to be all the more reason to stage! If it's a challenge for a stager....can't image what a buyer would be thinking.
Really interesting project. We don't have units like that where we live so it's incredibly interesting to see the layout and staging work done here. Thanks for sharing... .
Peg ~ Thanks for your enthusiastic comment. I really can't imagine someone viewing a vacant loft online and getting excited about it -- they're so industrial they really need some warming up!
Kathy ~ Those pears are my new favorite accessories -- they're ceramic and just cool (from JCPenney!)
Donna ~ You are right about a buyer not having a clue what to do with it ... there are many ways to lay these out but this is the layout we settled on. Since this unit sits near to a freeway we needed to distract potential buyers and give them more to look at than the traffic outside.
Melissa ~ There are so many options that we found it more challenging!
Maureen, hmmmm, now I wonder why Tony chose you....smart Realtor! Don't you love it when your time here pays off. The loft looks great. Since there is nothing like this in my area I'm intrigued and would love the challenge. I don't think even Portland has this style of living when I was there. Thanks for letting us take a look!
Ginger ~ These lofts are very popular for those who want the downtown lifestyle with all the hip dining spots and shopping outside the door. They're a fun challenge to work with.
Maureen ! Youre stagings are always so clean and crisp. I love what you did with this loft. What a fun project that was. Love It!
SSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOO COOL! The only "lofts" here in LA are in downtown ~ not so many in burbs where I am (I'm jealous)
This loft is gorgeous and I love how you staged the living spaces. Very nice, crisp, clean look-any you really enhanced the home.
Wow, it is just beautiful!!!
Fernando ~ Why, thank you for that nice endorsement....it was fun!
Connie ~I stage in the 'burbs a lot too ... but the downtown lofts have their own special, hip "vibe" and it's a different world.
Cathy ~ They do require a minimalist-type of look and the open spaces aren't for everyone, but this particular corner unit has several separate areas that created more privacy. I hope potential buyers share your enthusiasm!
S. ~ Thanks for stopping by, glad to hear that you liked it.
Maureen, The colors you chose are just lovely...so is the entire staging AND the loft. It's now a really beautiful space.
Carole ~ Many thanks for your kind and generous support. I hope potential buyers feel that way too!
I agree with others who mention the potential challenge of staging a space like this. You did a great job. Makes me want to come see it in person...which, after all, is the point of those great MLS photos!!! Oh yeah, and what a fun, now-you-see-it, now-you-don't bedroom!
You sure did a great job! Wow. I love the kitchen and also like the little sitting area you created on the red wall.
Congratulations. Your post is being featured in the gorup Staging Before & After Pictures.
Kathy
Always like to see your work Maureen. Especially in lofts as I don't have that opportunity in our area. Beautifully done as always.
Janis ~ Yes, those sliding screen doors are cool, aren't they? A real feature in this home. That space is very flexible and could be used for a guest room, an office space, TV den, etc.
Kathy ~ Thanks so much. There are so many ways to use open spaces like this that it was challenging to commit to a particular arrangement.
Michele ~ Your kind words are appreciated. I hope potential buyers can imagine themselves here and make an offer!
Very nice. When can I move in!!!
Chrissie ~ I'd like to move in, too!
WOW! everything you have done in this home is the best possible demonstration of what home staging is about.
Particularly, l love the master bedroom display that you creatively demo'd. Your presentation is truly to "SELL" and that's what it's all about.
You displayed space and funtion at the same time design. Tough task to pull off! My hat is off to you!
I have a similiar room to do next week in IN-Town Atlanta -- think I will follow this design lead ( if it's okay) -- THX
Karen ~ You know our role as stagers is to showcase the home's square footage as well as the architectural details. This project presented some challenges and hopefully buyers will now "see" the spacious rooms and how they might use the space. Thanks for joining into the discussion!
Hello Maureen, it just goes to show you modern doesn't have to have a cold feeling. You created a warm, inviting and modern environment!
I'm really fond of how the kitchen was staged, I want it for myself.
Cynthia ~ That kitchen is very modern and sleek, glad you liked it.
Very interesting space...really makes me want to see it in person. awesome job!
Margaret ~ I'm glad to hear you'd like to see it in person, because that means potential buyers viewing it online may feel that way too!
How cool, what an interesting space, and how much fun you must have had!
Impressive and very well done. I inspect a lot of lofts in downtown San Diego. Eventually I'd love to live in one.
Cindy ~ Yes, it was a LOT of fun to work in this space and we felt that color was a needed key ingredient.
Russel ~ Thanks for your feedback ... nice to have you stop by.
I would love to do loft!..... Great job of staging it! Your pictures are excellent!
Great choices, punches of color, yet very serene. Looks like this was really a fun space to stage!
Jess ~ Thank you! It's a great loft space.
Cheryl ~ I'm glad that came through, yes it was fun!
