Angelica Thornton, news anchor at KATU Channel 2 in Portland OR (ABC affiliate) contacted me to ask if my company, Room Solutions Staging would like to participate in a news feature story on Home Staging and how it can help sell a home faster in this slower real estate market. This news story aired on the 5:00pm news Monday, July 30th. The purpose of the news story was to make home sellers aware of what home staging is, and to show them a few easy tips.

They filmed us staging two properties ~ the first one was an Occupied home already on the market. Interest in this home picked up considerably after staging, and it SOLD soon after.
The second project was a Vacant home, staged before it was listed. In this segment, the homeowner was interviewed about his reaction to the staging process. He received a full price offer just days after staging!
UPDATE: On August 2, another local TV show (AM Northwest, the morning general topic interview show following ABC's Good Morning America) did a segment on home staging and replayed the same news feature story, with different commentary from the co-hosts ~ so staging received more exposure for public awareness.
Participating with Room Solutions Staging of the two homes featured in the news story were the following Active Rain home stagers based in Portland, OR: Maureen Bray, Trisha Lane, Lynn Kennedy, Diane Fisher, and Nik Murrow. They all did a great job!
Although it was exciting to have been asked to participate in this project, hopefully the benefit to homeowners and agents will be an informative one....those who aren't aware of staging may now look into it. One of the things we all do is EDUCATE the public about the benefits of home staging.....let's continue to get the word out that staging works!
Room Solutions Staging LLC is based in Portland OR and offers home staging services to homeowners, realtors, and investors. Give us a call at 503-246-1800 so we can help you sell your home faster and for maximum profit!

Maureen,
Congratulations, this is absolutely wonderful! Most of us couldn't begin to afford this type of exposure/advertising! This could take your business to a whole new level. And you are sooo right about staging, I just experience it myself this week!
I'm so excitied for you! Can you save it for others to see here in the rain?
I actually have a listing where the homeowners are listening to everything I tell them. They are ajoy to work with. They have spent under $300 and it looks really good. I hope their home sells real soon.
Congratulations Maureen, I knkow the homeowners will benefit and I am sure your business will benefit as well. Good luck.
Lynda,
Thank you for your kind words. I'm so happy to hear that as a real estate agent, you have experienced the power of staging! I'm very grateful for this opportunity and realize the benefit of this type of "free" advertising. Yes, I hope to capture the broadcast and post it here on A/R, or at least a link to the video broadcast...thanks again.
Betty,
Thanks so much for your comment....Hopefully through forums like A/R and our contacts with agents and homeowners, we're spreading the good word about home staging's success stories. I'll put a link to the news piece after it airs. Thanks again for your support ~ we're all in this together!
Maureen - well done! Can we see a copy? Maybe on Youtube or somewhere? Gosh, this will make your phone ring off the hook! Such fun. Well done. Juliet
I can't wait to see it! Awesome exposure for you and great for home staging in general. Congrats!
My graphic is "lemon" -- but I'm sure your segment will not be!
Maureen,
Well, it seems that many congratulations are in order for you - the feature on TV, the successful staging and selling of both houses AND the fact that you advocate the Staging of Houses to Sell at every opportunity and therefore get the 'word' out there (which helps ALL of us)!
VAL
Terry ~ Thanks, will do. I'm not sure what the final news piece looks like and hope it comes out OK! (Today they kept playing a "promo" for the upcoming story, and my client in the vacant home was shown walking into the bathroom as he said, "Holy smokes, this is fantastic!" That made me feel great (and this really was the first time he'd seen the transformation through staging!)
Kathleen ~ Many thanks for your generous words. I do agree that people who aren't that familiar with staging are still very curious about it, and hopefully they'll learn something more when they watch the news feature.

Wahoo!! Congrats, Maureen. I just moved from Portaland and used to watch that segment. Wonderful exposure!!!
-Susie
You go girl - OMG, it was wonderful! The best home staging piece I've seen -- want to know why?
As opposed to the 20/20 version:
You did not dance
You did not cheer, yell, or sing
You did not spray paint the grass
You did not clip outdoor branches and hang them on curtain rods
You did not have 20 people running around is every room
and, well, the list goes on and on! The important thing is you represented the industry with CLASS! Thank you for doing that for ALL OF US!
Kathleen ~ Thanks for your comment.....It would be great if the news feature causes a few more folks to call about home staging!
Maureen.. how great! You did this with poise and dignity as a professional! I truly hope that this brings you added success..... you are a winner... believe it!
All the best,
Lori
hi Maureen,
Congrats on the exposure - and just in time for our SOLD OUT ASP class in Portland! I will make sure to talk about it to the class! Make sure to send in the link to Stagedhomes.com too so you can be featured on the site - if you have not done so already!
The segment is great - and anything that shows us Staging - and having fun is part of Staging - so whether it is dancing, using what the seller has with our creativity, or Staging with things we bring in - it's all part of what we do. It does not make us less professional to show us enjoying what we do!
Great job!
Jennie
Maureen! Great job! Isn't that fantastic?? I was fortunate enough to have a similar thing happen with me....although I didn't receive a TON of calls immediately..I am still reveicing the positive effects months later.
Educating the public and real estate agents in exactly what we do is so important...thank you for this!
Julia
Calie ~ Thanks for your kind words. I'm hoping the viewers now understand how home staging can benefit them.
Julia ~ How fun that you had a similar experience! (I'd love to see a clip -- can we access it?) You're right, much of what we do is educating the public and agents about what we do and WHY, and how it will help them! I guess it's an ongoing process.
