Staging a Rummer Home in Beaverton Oregon
Today my Portland home staging company completed staging of a "Rummer" home in the suburb of Beaverton, Oregon. If you haven't heard of a "Rummer" these homes were built in the 1960's and '70's with a post-and-beam design. Robert Rummer was the builder and creator, and he styled them after another type of home that he admired, the Eichler home. Eichlers were a popular mid-century ranch home in California, with most rooms built off a central atrium.

Here are some Before and After photos of this unique Rummer style of home.

The unique architectural details of the Rummer homes in Beaverton Oregon are popular with those who love these one-level ranch style homes that take their inspiration from the mid-century Eichlers in California.

Maureen,
Very interesting post, learned something new about Oregon architecture. Nice Staging. All the best and wishing you continued success in all your endeavors.
Maureen: What a fabulous job you have done with this home. This seller should really be impressed... because I know I am. Great job. It appears you really know your stuff !
Maureen,
Thanks for the brief education. I like the look of these homes and the staging was excellent. I will keep my eye out for this style home in Spokane, WA and Coeur d'Alene ID.
Maureen - I thought this was something a pirate had on his ship! We have lots of these styles of homes here. You've made this "rummer" look very appealing.
What a difference your staging has made in showcasing this home Maureen. Excellent work as usual!
Never heard of a rummer. Well, actually I didn't know that is what these styles of homes were called. That dark rust wall was an eye opener! Good thing that got changed, ha. It looks fabulous.
You're at it again, Maureen. Doing what you do BEST and that's staging homes! The difference is significant. I'm sure the sellers were more than pleased with how you made their home look.
Congratulations. Your home staging is being featured in the group Staging Before and After Pictures.
Kathy
Maureen, thanks for informatie post. As always you've done fab job. I like how you follow architecture and place furniture on the angle.
Nope, never heard of this style home. Those before pictures show a house in great need of work and attention. It would have been passed by more times than not without the staging. Well done! It looks beautiful.
Maureen....yes this is just like an Eichler! It looks FAB and I imagine you had fun working with this home! Love all the clean lines and how the staging makes all that pop......and some great curb appeal too. WOW oh WOW!!!
Ron & Alex ~ Glad you learned a bit more about Oregon's unqiue home styles. Thanks so much for your good wishes, and the same to you both as well!
Karen Anne ~ you are too kind, and your comment is much appreciated! :-)
Scott ~ these particular mid-century homes were built on in Oregon, but I'll bet your area has very similar ones. They make sense for anyone looking for a ranch style with some unique architectural details.
Sally ~ LOL you're such a comedian :-) That's interesting that you have them in B.C. too ... most of the homes built by Joe Eichler are in California, and all 750 Rummers are in Oregon. I think they both inspired offshoots of a similar style.
Michele ~ thanks very much -- it was an interesting and unique home to stage.
Shar ~ You're right -- that red wall in the master was too much for buyers so fortunately it was changed to a soft neutral.
Kathy ~ thanks so much for the feature in the "Before and After" group!
Anna ~ many thanks, we set the furniture in the atrium on an angle because it made for a more dynamic look. Against the wall was too boring for this large room.
Sharon ~ without staging, this home likely wouldn't have very interesting online photos to draw buyers in, and once there they'd wonder what to do with the unusual spaces. Unique home styles like this one really benefit from staging, I think we'd all agree.
Kathy B. ~ I know you've staged Eichlers and this one is almost the identical floor plan. As a matter of fact, I read that the Eichler camp was upset that a builder up in Oregon was "copying" their unique style -- back in the 60's. We kept the staging simple to keep the focus on the home's interesting lines and angles. Please come back and add a photo of any Eichler homes you've staged -- would be fun to see.
Great job Maureen! Your modern style staging is perfecto!! I love this style home and I am always so thrilled when I get to stage them.
Cathy ~ I'll bet you've staged a lot of Eichlers! Please feel free to add a photo here ... would love to see yours. They take modern furnishings and art very well. I grew up in California about 90 minutes south of where you live so I've seen my share of them.
Thanks for the lesson here, Maureen. I just learned something new here. :) Great staging as always, Maureen!
Thanks Birgit -- we all learn lots of new and interesting things here in the Rain, don't we? :-)
Maureen....here's my Eichler from earlier this year:
This was a FUN project!!
Kathy - That roofline is the key to Eichler and Rummer homes -- yours looks fabulous. I love the cool modern vibe your staging gave it -- thanks for posting your photos.
Wow!! Wonderful job as always. I love the furniture choice. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful job Kathy - you truly are a talented decorator/stager. Your client must be thrilled!
Chrissie ~ Thanks so much for your nice compliment ....
Kristine ~ Every project has unique challenges. This one was no exception and we're hoping for a quick sale.
Maureen, these mid century moderns always look so modern to me....I love the clean lines. Love how your L/R design really showcased the room. The staging is warm and inviting, perfect as usual! The pillows, art and rug.....all great choices.
Hi Cynthia ~ Those clean lines ARE indeed great, and fun to work with. (No clutter allowed in a home like this LOL) Thanks for stopping by.
Beautiful job. It looks like there was some cleaning going on before the staging. Do you have the homes cleaned before you stage or are you in there doing that and quoting that in your price?
Hi Debra ~ I require that the home be professionally cleaned before staging -- but don't do it myself, however I'm always happy to refer clients to reputable cleaning companies.
Maureen- I remember seeing homes with lines similar to this in Houston. I love the updated look your staging has given the rooms... still fitting in with the tone of the architecture and yet being fresh and "today".
Hi Kathy ~ I'll bet similar mid-century styles can be found all over. They're certainly gaining in popularity again. Thanks for your kind words.
Maureen,
Outstanding staging on this home as always! It's always fun to stage different styles of homes and you do such a beautiful job with the variety of homes that you have staged!
Hi Linda ~ As stagers I'll bet we all enjoy variety when we're working, yes! Thanks very much for taking time to comment.
Great staging Maureen! I had never heard of rummer homes...thanks for the education! I love all the window sizes and shapes!
Hi Janice ~ The Rummer homes have very interesting windows -- I guess that's one reason people like them. Very mid-century modern, aren't they?
Like the others I hadn't heard of that style either. Beaverton, home of NIKE right? Funny, I have that big apple too and the pear that goes with it!
Hi Cindy ~ Yes, Beaverton is the home of NIKE. (How do you know so much about Oregon, anyway?) Isn't it fun when we discover we like the same inventory LOL
Ha, I dont' really, it's that whole sports connection. I went to McMinnville, Oregon once to work with a former NY Yankee that lived there. Some rainy day (here, not there), I'll have to tell you...lol!
