How do you feel when you finish staging? Before & Afters of a 1927 Craftsman Bungalow in Portland OR

I recently staged a beautifully updated 1927 Craftsman bungalow for a repeat Investor client of mine in Portland Oregon.  As soon as I complete a home staging project like this one, I can't wait to compare the "Before" photos to the "Afters."  I guess you could say that seeing my client's postiive reaction and then the transformation in the photos is what I live for ~ it doesn't take much to make me happy!  How do you feel when you finish a staging project?

WOW!  That is just absolutely great.  I'm going to bookmark this one for future ideas and email it to all of our agents.  Thank you.

Ardell ~ Thank you very much!  I hope it will help convince your agents to contact an experienced stager in their area for their future vacant listings.

WOW!!! I love these types of homes because they offer such history, mystique, design, clean lines... Ok, I will stop, They offer a great blank pallet that can go several directions of design. You did a fab job Maureen.

Beautiful transformation, I like your style - simple, effective... just right.

I noticed your wall hanging over the bed... is that from Pier One?  I found similar square place mats at Pier One recently that we used as wall hangings (and I saw a piece just like yours there too).  This made a large focal point for very little $$$ - so if you like that look, you should check out your local store and see if they still have them.

Lori ~ Thanks for stopping by and commenting.  Craftsman bungalow are one of my favorite home styles, for all the reasons you mentioned.  Occasionally I stage them with some period pieces but find that most buyers today prefer a more contemporary look without getting too trendy.

Great Job. You really brought out the beauty of this craftsman bungalow. Your before and after pics really tell the story of your hard work staging this home. Thanks for sharing this with the rest of us. We can all learn from experts such as you.
Posted by Ed Bartley (Executive Realty - Brio) over 4 years ago
Holly ~ Yes, I found that long woven piece on sale at Pier 1.  I love the texture and used it to represent a headboard since the narrow stairway made it impossible to bring a queen mattress & boxsprings upstairs.  I had to use an inflatable Anywhere queen bed.  I love the small mats too that you found at Pier 1 and am going to see if I can find some of them!  Thanks for your comments and tips.

Ed ~ Thank you for your very kind remarks.  We all learn so much from each other here on A/R, don't we?  I see you're a fellow Northwesterner -- OK, so we've had enough snow now, haven't we?

What lovely transformations you create!  I'm a Realtor who has used a stager for my recent listings...on the listing appointment I explain this to the seller and _tell_ them what a great job my stager does, but from now on I'm going to take Before and After photos so that I can _show_ them!  Thanks for the idea.  Cheers, Harley

Really wonderful before and after photos....because you did a wonderful job!  The photos show how well your staging has warmed up the rooms, vacant rooms tend to look cold, and unappealing to most buyers.

Nice work Maureen, and thanks to ARDELL for sending your post to her agents...so I got to see this!

Beautiful job Maureen!  I love Craftsman Bungalows, they have so much character and the built-ins are always nice.  The woven "placemats" from Pier 1 are quite popular, as they are so versatile.  I used the red ones as a wall hanging in a tour home last summer and then bought more to use in November as you did... for a quick headboard.  Keep up the good work!  BTW, just curious if that a real flat screen hanging on the wall or is it a box prop?

You did a beautiful transition. This goes so far in selling a home!

Here is what painters and a local staging company worked on all last week for clients who moved out of town. This was fun but time-consuming; coordinating everything for an office tour was fast-paced and to the last minute.

Harley ~ I'm glad to hear that you recommend staging to your listing clients -- that makes a win-win situation for everyone in the equation.  Showing some Before & Afters really helps clients to "see" the possibilities.  Thanks for stopping!

Deborah ~ I agree 100% that vacant rooms look cold and unappealing to potential buyers.....all vacant homes can benefit from staging, even if it's done simply it can be quite effective.  Thank you very much for your kind remarks.

This is fantastic!  I love the big pic on the wall, I have a few of those, haven't used them yet to hope to do so soon.
Posted by Cindy Bryant Home Stager & Home Staging Houston TX~Redesign Etc. (Redesign Etc. Home Staging) over 4 years ago

hi Lisa ~ How are things in Salem?  The flat screen is from Props by IDM.  Although it's plastic, it looks fine for staging purposes.  Thanks for stopping by!

Taunya ~ Your listing looks fabulous!  Those ceilings must be pretty high with all that scaffolding.  Your stager did an excellent job ~ Good luck with the office tour!  Thank you for stopping by and commenting.

Cindy ~ Thanks for your comment. Those oversize vintage framed prints are great for anchoring a space.  In this case, I needed to create another focal point in the room to avoid a "titanic" effect and it did the trick. Be sure to use a heavy duty screw or 2 Hercules Hooks when you hang yours -- they're quite heavy.

Maureen, Fabulous job. Before and afters are great. What exactly is the wall hanging over the bed? I also love Holy's placemats. What a talented bunch here on AR.

Maureen:

How fun to do a craftsmen style...yes, I feel the same as you when I'm done.   Love to compare the before and afters...Another thing a photo does for me is help me see any area I need to tweak!  It's amazing what you can see in a picture that you sometimes miss with the naked eye!

Beautiful job.

Kimberley ~ The piece above the bed is a woven wood panel from Pier 1.  Since it's as light as a feather it's easy to transport and hang.  Thanks for commenting!

Renee ~ Here in Portland we have a lot of the 1920's Craftsman homes and they're fun to stage.  You're so right about the photos....I often notice things I never saw until I study them -- then say to myself "I'd better go back and move that a bit."  Thanks for your nice compliment.

Maureen, Beautiful space, Beautifully done! For me even before we are finished with the staging the exhilaration and pride take over and I can't wait for the homeowner or in many cases builders to come in for the reveal. We did a 1.3million dollar craftsman duplex that took us two days to complete and we only staged one side, and yes each side was priced at 1.3! It has to have been one of my most favourite ones but needless to say I slept in the next day!

Yeah, very nice work with the bungalow. The increased appeal to a potential buyer is obvious, I don't know why all Real estate sales people do not use staging. I guess it makes sense if the seller is still living in the home. Do you guys lease the furniture or buy it?

Dane ~ Thank you!  Aren't they (Craftsman) great with all their character?  I had one myself and I miss it too.

Debbie ~ Your kind words are appeciiated.  Makes it all that much more worthwhile! P.S.  I love your tag line about wrinkles!

Christopher ~ Thanks for commenting.  Agents who realize the power of staging usually have faster sales and/or higher offers.  We stage both vacant and occupied homes (this one was vacant).  We rent the furnishings to the client for a reasonable monthly cost.

Boootiful.  I think this style is such fun.  Though, having just done one, I found a lot of my more eclectic, "generic" stuff didn't work.  Do you find you need specifically linear things to match the mission look?

Juliet

Posted by Juliet Johnson - Web Based Marketing Specialist (Vizzitopia) over 4 years ago
Juliet ~ Since the Crafstman style is so clean and simple, I selected non-fussy pieces and think they fit the home well. In this home's price point, I wouldn't stage with Mission furniture (even though I love it personally) because it would be too limiting in our market.  Thanks for stopping!
